Kayla Mulford - President
Kayla was born in McComb, Mississippi, but has called Louisiana “home” for most of her life. She was accepted and enrolled in the state-wide residential high school, Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts and graduated with a focus in math and science in 2005. She then attended Louisiana State University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science.
Kayla has been active in Capital City Alliance since 2012 and has proudly served as its president since 2013. She was awarded the Pride 1 Female Advocate of the Year in 2014 and elected as the Honorary Grand Marshall of the 10th Annual Baton Rouge Pride Festival in 2016.
She helped to organize the first Louisiana Equality March in 2012 and continued that work for three years, as well as organizing CCA’s annual holiday adoption project that has raised more than $10,000 to provide gifts to children affected by HIV/AIDS in the Greater Baton Rouge area. Additionally, Kayla has organized many successful fundraisers such as Kings, Queens & Everything in Between, Donate for a Date, and Drag Yourself into the New Year which raised money to put on various educational and social programs such as the annual Baton Rouge Spirit Day, the LGBT Wedding Directory, and more. In 2016, she also was the driving force behind the Louisiana Loves campaign which featured 100 iconic LGBTQ+ couples from the across the state of Louisiana in a commemorative book in celebration of the U.S. Supreme Court marriage ruling that year.
In addition to her rigorous schedule of service with CCA, Mulford also is active as a volunteer with a number of other community organizations and initiatives such as Baton Rouge Pride, Pride 1, Equality Louisiana (EQLA), Youth Oasis, Family Services of Greater Baton Rouge and a host of other anti-bullying campaigns and various local and national platforms advocating for LGBTQ communities.
